They are artists. 'Toxic' star Benedict Garrett slams trolls targeting Kiara Advani for 'Tabaahi' song

The recently released song ‘Tabaahi’ from: Yash:The upcoming film ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ is making rounds on the internet. While many praised the chemistry between Yash and: Kiara Advania section of social media users criticized Kiara for showing romantic scenes after her marriage and motherhood. Trolling soon caught the attention of British actors Benedict Garrettwho is also part of the film, and he decided to face the issue through a powerfully worded video shared on Instagram.

Benedict: Garrett questions the double standard behind trolling

In his video, Benedict directly questions the double standards surrounding the reactions to the song. “I’ve seen people praising Yash, filling his comments with fire emojis and saying how amazing he looks. But when it comes to Kiara Advani, she’s become the butt of jokes. People say things like, ‘Oh, she just got married, she’s a mother, she’s on a honeymoon instead of Sidharth Malhotra.’ Seriously?” he said. He added, “Yash, he is married again, and he has children. So why is it only the woman who abuses, while the man seems to get the applause? Listen, here is the reality check. They are actors. Their job is to act, to portray characters, to make you believe that they are in love, even if they are not.” Benedict also argued that the criticism had nothing to do with Kiara’s performance. “They don’t criticize her for her acting. They criticize her for being someone’s wife, for being someone’s mother. As if marriage somehow means that an actress has to stop acting. That’s ridiculous. The problem is not her professionalism. It’s the double standard and the hypocrisy of the people who attack her,” he said.

The actor called for fair treatment of the performers

Along with the video, Benedict Garrett also shared a caption asking, “Why is Kiara Advani attacked for doing her job, while Yash is praised for doing the same thing? He stressed that actors portray fictional characters and viewers should separate their professional work from their personal lives. Her comments received support from many fans, who praised her for speaking out against gender-based double standards in the entertainment industry.
