Veteran actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha the public praised the daughter Sonakshi Sinha for speaking out in support of activists Sonam Wangchukwho is on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi due to the alleged NEET-UG paper leak issue.A day passed Sonakshi: Sinha’s emotional video urging the government to start a dialogue with Wangchuk went viral, Shatrughan took to X (formerly Twitter) to express concern over the activist’s deteriorating health while applauding his daughter for raising her voice.
Shatrughan Sinha urged the government to intervene in Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike
In his post, Shatrughan Sinha described Sonam Wangchuk as a “climate activist” and “education reformer” who peacefully protested in support of students affected by the alleged NEET-UG examination paper leak.Highlighting the failing health of Wangchuk after nearly three weeks of fasting, Shatrughan requested the government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the concerned authorities to intervene immediately.“He has been fasting unto death for a right cause since almost 3 weeks, with failing health… the Government, concerned authorities, our honorable PM @narendramodi & @PMOIndia must meet his demands and intervene immediately… Save Wangchuk!” he wrote.Praising her daughter, she added, “Pride of my family, my beloved daughter #SonakshiSinha has made me prouder today, by coming out boldly, evident in her timely response.”
Sonakshi Sinha says she ‘can’t be quiet’
In the video that sparked widespread discussion online, Sonakshi Sinha explained why she chose to speak publicly despite generally staying away from political and social commentary.“I have never given a statement like this, but now we cannot ignore him. Sonam Wangchuk. We all know him. We know what he has done for our country,” he said.Speaking about Wangchuk’s long fast, he added, “He was hungry. He didn’t eat anything. Who was he doing this for? He was doing it for the future of the children … He was fighting a system that didn’t work properly.”Questioning the lack of response from the authorities, Sonakshi said, “Why is nobody listening? Nobody cares.He ended his video by saying, “Main koi anti-national nahi hu,” while acknowledging that his comments may attract criticism.
