Akshay Kumar’s multi-starrer comedy ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ witnessed another sharp drop in its earnings at the Indian box office. The film which entered its fourth week in theatres, witnessed a sharp drop in collections on Friday, coinciding with the release of Christopher Nolan’s much-anticipated epic ‘The Odyssey’, which has emerged as a new option for Indian moviegoers.

According to sacnilk’s initial estimates, ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ has earned just Rs 20 lakh nett on Day 22, from around 738 shows playing in theaters across the country. The latest numbers take the film’s total Indian collection to an estimated Rs 132.05 crore, while its gross collection in India stands at an estimated Rs 156.89 crore.According to the report, Friday’s fourth haul marked a whopping 60 percent drop from Thursday’s estimated collection of Rs 50 lakh. This leak also comes as the film is nearing the end of its theatrical run.

‘Welcome To The Jungle’ weekly collections

The film opened to a promising response, collecting approximately Rs 93 crore in its first week. However, it was unable to sustain the momentum in the following weeks. According to the report, the film, in its second week, saw the collections fall to around Rs 31.90 crore, while the third week saw the collections fall by single digits, contributing only Rs 6.80 crore. Now, with the film starting its fourth weekend with a meager collection of just Rs 20 lakh, it remains to be seen if it can sustain the pace in the coming week.

‘Welcome To The Jungle’ collections worldwide

Despite the slowdown in India, ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ is on its way to the Rs 200 crore mark at the global box office. The film has collected an estimated Rs 33.35 crore gross in the international markets, taking the worldwide gross collection to Rs 190.24 crore. It remains to be seen if the movie can add another Rs 10 crore to its collections this week before it gears up for its OTT debut.

‘The Odyssey’ vs ‘Welcome To The Jungle’

The film’s box office slowdown can be attributed to the arrival of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, which was released across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The Hollywood epic made an impressive debut, earning an estimated Rs 20.76 crore and collecting an estimated ₹17.40 crore nett on its opening day. Driven by strong occupancy in IMAX and premium formats, the film dominated premium screens and multiplexes, attracting audiences who might have opted for a local release.Notably, Nolan’s latest film has also surpassed ‘Welcome To The Jungle’s own opening-day box office collections, thus setting it up to be one of the top-performing Hollywood films in India.
