Spain have dominated the tournament and are looking to lift the World Cup for the second time, having already won in South Africa in 2010. Argentina are also looking for a fourth tournament which Messi has said will be his last in the world. Despite predicting Spain to win, Ronaldo hailed Argentina’s success in reaching the World Cup finals just four years after winning the title in Qatar, describing their campaign as the best ever. Ronaldo’s opinion has more power because of his World Cup form. He won the tournament with Brazil in 1994 before taking part in the 1998 edition, where he led his country to the final and received the Ballon d’Or as the tournament’s best player. He then completed a memorable comeback at the 2002 World Cup after recovering from a serious knee injury, finishing as the scorer of eight goals, including both goals in Brazil’s 2–0 win over Germany in the final. In four World Cups, Ronaldo scored 15 goals in 19 games and remains Brazil’s leading scorer in the tournament’s history.
