According to the song’s creative notes, Watch It Burn “explores the moment when years of restraint, crowd-pleasing and silence are finally replaced by honesty.”Speaking to songwriter Justin Tranter on Unfamous The Podcast, Perry revealed that she wrote the song in March 2025 but was initially hesitant to release it. “On ‘Watch It Burn’ I wrestled with my darkness but the last year has been pretty tough. I haven’t allowed myself to be angry my whole life about things I should be angry about. What I did was I pushed it, but I had to be angry. I was allowed to be angry for a while,” he continued.
