Swara Bhasker alleged that her husband, political activist Fahad Ahmad, was detained by the Mumbai Police while participating in a protest at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar. According to the actor, many demonstrators were also arrested and taken to Mahim Police Station. Calling the incident horrifying, Swara described it as a “shameful state of affairs.”On Monday night, he shared a video on social media showing police personnel escorting Fahad away from the protest site. In the clip, he can be heard asking the officers, asking, “Why are you arresting me?” The video was reportedly recorded around 4:30 pm.
The actor said the protesters were taken to Mahim Police Station
Posting the video on her social media account, Swara wrote, “Mumbai police detained @fahadzirarahmad and other protesters at #chaityabhoomi in Mumbai on 20 July 2026, at 4:30 pm. They are currently detained at the Mahim Police Station. This is democracy in India. Shameful situation (sic).”Earlier in the day, he also uploaded another clip, which Fahad reportedly sent from inside a police car after his incarceration.Along with the video, the actor wrote, “I received this video at 4:30 pm on July 20, 2026, from @fahadzirarahmad. He asked me to post it. Mumbai Police allegedly attacked peaceful protesters at #Chaityabhoomi in Mumbai. Those in solidarity, please come to Chaityabhoomi peacefully and in large numbers (sic).”
Police action during the demonstration was reported
According to sources, a large number of people gathered in Chaityabhoomi to express solidarity with the protest of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) detained by the Mumbai Police. Reports also suggested that some demonstrators sustained injuries during the police action, although officials did not confirm the exact number of people detained or injured.
Delhi and Mumbai witnessed similar protests
The developments in Mumbai coincided with the CJP’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest in Delhi, where thousands of demonstrators gathered and marched towards Parliament.Among those in the national capital were actors Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj, who joined CJP leader Abijeet Dipke and other protesters in lending support to the movement.While Mumbai witnessed police detentions in Chaityabhoomi, Delhi saw massive participation in the march to Parliament, making it a day of simultaneous protests in the two major cities.
