Tom Holland talks about working with: John: Bernthal for the first time
The two stars recently joined the popular reality show ‘Hot Ones’ to promote ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man. New Day.’ During their interview as they talked about the films, Holland also weighed in on how it felt to work on both films with Bernthal, and how their first experience acting together on sets was for him. The two last shared the screen in ‘Pilgrimage’, which released in 2017.While talking about filming for the project, Holland revealed that Bernthal took method acting to another level. His character in the film is mute, so in order to get into the persona of his character, Jon will avoid speaking, Holland revealed. The actor explained that, “I was his best friend in the movie. And like three or four weeks before we started shooting, we’d become good friends.”He also shared that, “We were together and suddenly he was like, ‘Listen, dog. I have to do this. I’m not talking. I’m going to go full method. I’m not doing it. I’m going to need your help. I’m going to need to sandi on your shoulder.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, whatever, man. Like, if that’s what you want to do, that’s what you want to do.'” He then commented that for the next two weeks, Bernthal remained devoted to his cause, and would refrain from speaking out completely, even in public settings.Laughing at the matter, Holland explained that at the time, they were filming in Ireland, and the fellow actor would continue his acting style even when they were not on set. He added, “And we all know Jon Bernthal. We all love Jon Bernthal. My man loves to talk. So we sit in restaurants and he writes about his food, and it’s regular Irish restaurants, and I have to be like, ‘I’m sorry my friend. He’s just a pretend actor.’‘”
How Jon Bernthal ended his stint in method acting
Holland then gave some insight into what made Bernthal stop in his acting process, sharing that it was an accident at a restaurant that forced the ‘Punisher’ actor out of his dedicated process. To provide more context, Holland stated, “Then one day we were at a restaurant, and he had salmon and he wrote, ‘Can I have some lemon for my salmon.’ So I said to the woman, ‘Excuse me, can I have some lemon for her salmon?’ And maybe he misheard me or something. He came over and brought this lemon and dropped it in his drink, in his water. Then immediately he was like, ‘Okay, f*** it. I’m talking again.'”On the work front, Bernthal and Holland will share the screen in the upcoming superhero film, ‘Spider-Man. Brand New Day’, which is set to be released on July 31. This will be the first film appearance of The Punisher since Bernthal joined the MCU and took over the character.
