Aakash Baskaran explains Parasakthi by: performance at the box office
Talking about the film’s theatricality in a YouTube chat with Chitra Lakshmanan, producer Aakash Baskaran admitted that several factors affected its commercial performance. He said, “The controversies surrounding ‘Parasakthi,’ its clash with other films, the censor issues and the huge expectations all played a major role in the film’s box office results.” He added, “We are making both ‘Parasakthi’ and ‘Idli Kadai’ on a profit sharing model. ‘Parasakthi’ is a big-budget film, but its box office collections are not at the expected level compared to the investment.” His comments offer a clearer picture as to why the film could not live up to financial expectations despite the hype.
The producer reveals why ‘Idli Kadai’ turned out to be such a profitable project
Aakash Baskaran also explained the difference between the two films from a business perspective. He said, “That is why we cannot pay the entire agreed profit share for ‘Parasakthi.’ But ‘Idli Kadai’ was made on a smaller budget, and it turned out to be a profitable venture for us. So, we were able to honor our commitment and pay Dhanush the complete share of the revenue we promised. His statement attracted attention because it directly compared the financial results of the two projects, bringing how the budget and the box office performance affected the final return. Aakash Baskaran’s comments reveal quite a bit about the filmmaking business. While ‘Parasakthi’ may not have met the expectations at the box-office, ‘Idli Kadai’ turned out to be a profitable venture due to its low budget and steady run in theatres.
