India have struggled under his leadership, starting with a shock 2-0 loss to Ireland before being thrashed 4-0 by England in the five-match T20I. Former Indian player Sadagopan Ramesh has said that the celebrations of Zimbabwe’s victory are understandable considering the problems the team has faced recently, stressing that the victory will bring relief to the captains. “Many are saying that India should not be too happy just because of the win in Zimbabwe. However, when you are hungry for victory for a long time in T20Is, even the leftover food will taste like a wedding meal. Shreyas Iyer will be relieved, considering the collapse of India under his captaincy. He would have reached a point where everyone’s victory would have been enough for him on Instagram. Ramesh also showered praise on VVS Laxman, who is serving as India’s head coach during the Zimbabwe tour. He praised the former Indian cricketer for delivering good results every time he was in charge of the country. “VVS Laxman also deserves a lot of credit. India does well whenever he is the head coach. Bottom line, India always seem to clean up their opponents, even when other teams are cleaning India up without doing so. It got to the point that India just needed a win of any kind and hence their happiness after defeating even Zimbabwe,” he said. India’s success was also highlighted by the young knock of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old played for an 18-year-old youth cricketer, and became the youngest player to score a fifty in international cricket. Sooryavanshi reached the milestone at the age of 15 years and 118 days, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record. The highest scorer was 16 years and 213 days when he registered his international fifty against Pakistan in a Test at Faisalabad in 1989.
