Volkswagen teases the new Tayron variant: what to expect

Volkswagen India has confirmed that it will expand the Tayron lineup with a new lower variant, scheduled to be launched tomorrow, ie, July 10, 2026. Positioned below the existing Tayron R-Line, the upcoming model is expected to offer a more affordable entry point into the three-row SUV range. While Volkswagen has yet to announce the official name of the variant, a teaser video has revealed several design and equipment details. The Tayron R-Line is currently priced at Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The next version could be priced somewhere around 42-43 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, the Tayron will continue to compete with SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

Volkswagen presents a new variant of the Tayron

In terms of design, the new Tayron retains the famous LED lighting signature seen on the R-Line. It gets LED headlights connected by a light bar, with an illuminated Volkswagen emblem in the center. Although the front bumper and grille have not been fully shown, they are expected to feature a less aggressive design than the R-Line. Another notable change is the introduction of a new five-spoke alloy wheel design, which is likely to be smaller than the 19-inch wheels offered on the flagship variant. The teaser also shows gloss black wheel arch cladding, roof rails, LED tail lights connected to an illuminated Volkswagen badge, and a redesigned rear bumper. Moving on to the interior, the interior layout largely mirrors that of the R-Line but with a few visual changes. The teaser reveals dual-tone seat upholstery, replacing the top model’s black interior theme. The SUV continues to feature a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, metal pedals, a panoramic roof and three rows of seats. However, Volkswagen is expected to omit some premium features available on the R-Line to help differentiate the two variants.Mechanically, no changes are expected. The new Tayron variant is likely to use the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, producing 204hp (about 201bhp) and 320Nm of torque. The engine will continue to be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, with power sent to all four wheels through Volkswagen’s AWD system.
