Honey Trehan‘Satluj’ which was earlier titled ‘Punjab ’95’, remained mired in controversy even after it was removed from OTT. The Diljit Dosanjh-starrer, which was pulled from the streaming platform within days of its release, is now reportedly being screened publicly in several locations, including parts of Punjab and Jammu. The said screenings prompted a legal challenge, with a petition filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking action against the organizers of the events.Inspired by the life and death of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, the film premiered on OTT on July 3 before being withdrawn from the platform on July 5. Its sudden removal sparked widespread discussions about censorship, legal procedures and the film’s circulation through unauthorized channels.Advocate Vineet Jindal announced on X, formerly Twitter, that he approached the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the reported public screening of ‘Satluj’. Sharing a copy of the petition, he said it seeks legal intervention against those allegedly responsible for organizing the activities.Jindal wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “A letter petition has been filed by Advocate Vineet Jindal before the Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking an immediate direction to prevent illegal streaming and unauthorized public screening of the film Satluj in the State of Punjab. organizations, and political parties involved in organizing illegal public screenings of the film.” Such screenings are said to be used to promote violence and spread hatred against a community as well as security agencies.He added, “These illegal acts pose a serious threat to peace, public order, and communal harmony in the State of Punjab. Therefore, I request proper directions to prevent such unlawful screenings and to ensure that those responsible are prosecuted in accordance with the law. ” In a separate video, Jindal argued that showing a film without required legal clearance or a valid authorized release amounted to an illegal act. He also urged the authorities to register FIRs and take strict action against the organizers.After removing the film from Zee5, the streaming platform issued a statement that read, “Due to current developments, Satluj will not be available in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audience at the earliest.”
