Australian women’s cricket vice-captain Ashley Gardner found himself at the center of a major controversy after his estranged wife, Monica Wright, publicly accused him of infidelity and identified a teammate as having been involved in the affair.In the list of Instagram post, Wright said Gardner cheated on her and shared a photo of Australian Georgia Voll opening with the caption: “This is who my wife cheated on me with…”The news comes shortly after the Daily Mail reported that Gardner and Wright had split due to a strained marriage.Sharing the Daily Mail’s report, Wright initially said that reports of a split were “very vague” before naming Voll in a subsequent Instagram post. The post not only alleges infidelity but also appears to reinforce reports that the split was far from amicable.Wright has also deleted all photos of Gardner from her Instagram account, including photos from their wedding ceremony.Neither Gardner nor Voll have publicly responded to Wright’s claims. Cricket Australia has also not responded to the allegations.

Gardner and Wright married in April 2025 in a ceremony attended by several members of the Australian women’s cricket team. According to a Daily Mail report, however, the relationship began to sour within two months when Gardner was in India for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.The post, citing a team source, said teammates saw “something” in the game, especially after Wright traveled to India to visit with Gardner. The insider said that the atmosphere around the couple seemed tense, although many thought that this was due to the stress of the World Cup.After returning to Sydney, Gardner allegedly had a private discussion with Wright that ended the marriage. According to the report, Wright was left “broken” after Gardner explained why things had changed during the India tour.The Daily Mail newspaper also reported that the separation was very painful because it is said that the couple were planning to have a family and had planned to go to the hospital before the separation.Gardner reportedly moved out of the home they were living in at the end of the year, allegedly leaving only their wedding rings behind. Sources cited in the book say the split has sent shockwaves through Australia’s tight-knit women’s team, with Wright having built strong relationships with a number of players over the past five years.The Daily Mail also reported that Cricket Australia was aware of the marital breakdown. When asked for comment, Cricket Australia’s chief communications officer Richard Hinds replied with a curt “no comment.”
