He said in an interview with Deccan Chronicle, “Gauri, Reena and Kiran did not change their religions when they married me, because we had a civil marriage,” he said. “Gauri is not a Hindu, she is a Christian, and not even a practicing Christian at that.”Emphasizing the diversity within his family, he said in the same interview, “Well, the truth is that our family is very inclusive.” He added, “My sisters are married to Hindus, and my daughter is also married to a Hindu. My cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian.For those who don’t know, as reported by ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain said that Aamir’s marriage to Gauri is not permissible under his interpretation of Islamic law, which maintains that a Muslim man cannot marry a non-Muslim woman unless she embraces Islam. In a video that surfaced online, he said, “Muslim mard ke liye, iman walon ke liye, gair muslim se shaadi karna haraam hai.”The cleric added that Muslims who marry non-Muslim women commit a sin and such marriages are considered *haraam*. He added that those who refuse to recognize this as sinful will ultimately be held accountable to Allah.Commenting on multiple marriages and divorces, Maulana said such a pattern was unjustified. He maintained that a person who cannot fulfill the responsibilities of one marriage fairly should not enter into another. Directly referring to Aamir, he said, “This question is about film actor Aamir Khan. He recently entered into a third marriage with a non-Muslim woman. Related to that, we are also seeing protests happening in the society.“Aamir first married Reena Dutta in 1986, followed by filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005.
