When an alleged question paper leak forces the National Eligibility cum Undergraduate Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 to be conducted again, many candidates are wondering if months of preparation have been in vain.For Uplakshya Goyal, who secured All India Rank (AIR) 3 in the retest, the uncertainty did not last long.After the initial disappointment, he decided to look at the second exam differently.“After so much effort, I was not sure if the results had any value. Later, I saw the re-examination as an opportunity to correct my mistakes,” Goyal told PTI.His approach paid off. The re-examination ultimately ranked among the best in the country.
A routine built around a goal
Preparing for a physical means putting almost everything else aside, Goyal said.He studied 10 to 12 hours a day, avoided family events and social outings, and focused on becoming a doctor.“The greatest happiness is seeing my parents happy, they have always supported me.” He said the result reflected both that support and his preparation.
Advice for future NEET aspirants
Looking back on his preparations, Goyal said there are no shortcuts to success.He advised prospective candidates to rely on their teachers, solve problems regularly and take practice exams frequently to build confidence.“Students should trust their teachers, practice questions regularly and take exams often,” he said PTI.His advice comes after a counseling season in which thousands of students are preparing for admission to medical colleges after the NEET UG results.
Family says he never lost sight of his goals
For Goyal’s parents, this ranking marks the end of a journey that had a clear goal from the beginning.His father Mukesh Goyal said his son had always planned to clear NEET in the first attempt without relegation.“He always wanted to be a doctor. Even after the paper leaked, he remained focused. We knew from his level of preparation that he would excel,” he told PTI.His mother, Anuradha Goyal, said the family saw him giving up social activities to focus on his studies and pursue his goal of studying at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).“Even though he was disappointed when the documents were leaked, he regained his confidence and continued to work hard,” she told me. PTI.She also said that Goyal often helped his friends with their academic doubts and believed that determination and dedication were the foundation of success.
From uncertainty to the next stage
For many candidates, the alleged paper leak became the defining moment of the NEET UG cycle 2026. For Goyal, this became a turning point.Rather than letting the uncertainty derail his preparation, he chose to view the retest as another opportunity. This decision has now placed him among the top three nationally, with thousands of successful candidates preparing for the next stage of the admissions process.
