Following: Aamir KhanThe intimate wedding of Gauri Spratt, his best friend and ‘Lagaan’ co-star Amen Hajee spoke candidly about the actor’s past relationships, shared his thoughts on Aamir’s split from: Kiran Rao and what he admired about Reena Dutta, Kiran and Gauri. In an interview with Rediff.com, Amin admitted that he was shocked by the news of Aamir and Kiran ending their marriage. “That’s the question I always ask myself. If someone can explain why two people fall in love, maybe they can also explain why they fall out of love.” Reflecting on relationships, Amin says they are often more layered than outsiders see.“Relationships are very complex. People develop, they change, and sometimes they grow in different directions. With time, they may realize that they are not the same people they were before.” He added that he never felt it was appropriate to question Aamir or Kiran about the reasons behind their breakup. “Aamir and Kiran have been together for 15 years. When they told us that they had separated, I was really shocked. But what impressed me was the way they handled it. Not once did they behave in a way that suggested bitterness or hatred. Whatever is personal remains personal. No public arguments, no respect. I don’t know what happened between them because they don’t discuss personal reasons with us.According to Amin, the affectionate bond between Kiran and Gauri Spratt is another reflection of maturity where everyone is handling the situation.“I saw Kiran and Gauri chatting warmly. There was no awkwardness or negativity.” Being Aamir’s friend for almost 30 years, Amin reflects on the pivotal role each of the three women played in different stages of the actor’s life.Talking about Reena Dutta, he credits her unwavering support during the making of ‘Lagaan’. “Reena is like a rock. She stepped in to make Lagaan because she knew Aamir needed her support.”He also recalled the mutual respect the couple shared while working together on the film. “Whenever there were disagreements over budgets or production, Aamir never wavered from his views. He would patiently explain why certain decisions had to be made for the film. There is great mutual respect between them.”Amin admitted that Aamir and Reena’s breakup had a big impact on him. “When Aamir told us that he and Reena had separated, I was devastated.”He recalls meeting Kiran Rao for the first time when he was an assistant director in ‘Lagaan’. Recalling an incident from the shoot, Amin said he refused to report to the set after being verbally abused by another assistant director. “Then Kiran came and said, ‘Baggu, put the tikkas only when you feel ready. No one is forcing you.’ He didn’t make me feel guilty although I later realized that he himself must have been reprimanded for being late. That’s how I remember Kiran. Intelligent and compassionate.”Talking about Gauri Spratt, Amin described her as quietly winning over those around her. “Gauri is special in her own way. We are together in Panchgani, where he enjoys long walks, nature and a simple lifestyle. She is a successful entrepreneur and works in the fashion and beauty business. But he didn’t talk about his achievements.“What’s amazing about Gauri is her emotional intelligence. She listens before she speaks. She prefers to understand every aspect of a situation before forming an opinion.” Aamir himself has previously spoken about the enduring respect he shares with Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao despite the end of their marriage. In an earlier interview with India Today, the actor reflected on the importance of two women in his life. “You know the important people I’ve met in my life, like Reena – she and I got married when we were together for 16 years. It was a runaway marriage; we ran away to get married. The most important relationships I’ve had in my life are these amazing people. Reena and Kiran are amazing people. These two women are what I spent my life with, and they gave me a many.He also said that although their relationship has improved over time, their love and respect for each other has endured.
