Vice-captain of Team India T20I Tilak Varma has reviewed the problems that led to India’s back-to-back T20I defeats against Ireland and England, insisting that the team is focused on learning from the setbacks and regaining momentum.The reigning champions in the T20 World Cup endured a forgettable tour of the British Isles in July 2026, winning only once in 10 matches as they lost back-to-back defeats to Ireland and England. India also failed to register a single win in the T20I series of the tour.
‘The situation in England was very difficult’
Ahead of the upcoming T20Is in Zimbabwe, Tilak admitted that adjusting to foreign countries after playing mainly in Asia over the past two years was difficult. He also supported the captain Shreyas Iyerdemonstrating the importance of staying calm under pressure and maintaining a positive environment within the group.“To be honest, Shreyas Iyer is leading a professional team, so obviously there is always a responsibility. At the same time, Ireland and England presented very different conditions. For the last two years, we have been playing in Asia, and suddenly we had to compete in foreign countries against the strongest side of England, which we had already seen in the World Cup semi-final. Playing against the same difficulties was difficult, and we always expected that we were facing natural difficulties, and we always expected that we were facing environmental issues,” Tilak said in a video shared by BCCI on X.
‘Results will come and go, we must remain hopeful’
The left-hander emphasized that the team has taken important lessons from the tour and is determined to bounce back by creating a better atmosphere inside the dressing room.“In this situation, you have to be calm under pressure and create positive energy within the team. That is our attitude. The results will rise and fall, but the most important thing is how we build a good place and give back to each person. It is a matter of one match or one series. The last series was a good lesson, and now we want to do what we learn and restore the energy,” he added.
