Director and Deep Fusion founder Field talks about the ambitions and personal significance of the documentary. “This film aims to do for James Hunt what Senna did for Ayrton Senna, providing a unique treat for F1 and motorsport fans around the world as well as for classic documentary enthusiasts who love a good story. The Hunt: We Need to Talk About James is a human story, painting a complete picture of a man who is certainly flawed, completely driven but also an unexpected who is a private person. The film shows a circular image of a man. Hunt remains one of the most loved icons of British sport and this film means a lot to me personally. Growing up listening to his commentary made me the F1 fan I am today, so directing this documentary is a real honor and a privilege,” he said according to the outlet.

Freddie Hunt’s view of the documentary
Freddie Hunt, son of James Hunt, expressed his enthusiasm about the project and the opportunity to present a more complete picture of his father. “Dad has always been painted as something of a caricature. I am very excited that, for the first time, the world will see two sides of the man – and already during the filming, stories came to light that had never been told about before,” said Freddie Hunt.
The director’s previous work and technology approach
Field is best known for his work on a documentary about Thunderbird creator Gerry Anderson. The film, ‘Gerry Anderson. A Life Uncharted’, created for a streaming platform and bought worldwide, uses AI technology to reuse audio archive footage and bring Anderson back to the screen to discuss his life and career, demonstrating Field’s innovative approach to documentary filmmaking and his ability to mix archival material with contemporary technology in compelling ways.
