Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar questioned India’s decision to withdraw Sanju Samson for the second T20I against England, when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was handed his first international, saying the move did not make sense. Taking X after the match, Manjrekar welcomed the 15-year-old but wondered why Samson was left out of the playing XI.“So good to see Vaibhav in Indian variety. But what about Samson! Dropped?? Are you kidding me!,” Manjrekar wrote.Then he added, “No, I think, (Samson) is injured. Let’s hope it’s an injury.Manjrekar also said that India could have included all the players in the playing XI. “(Samson) could easily bat at 3 if you want Vaibhav to come in,” he wrote.
Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old batsman from Samastipur in Bihar, became India’s youngest cricketer on Saturday, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of almost 37 years.However, his first appearance did not go as planned. Opening the innings with Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi managed just 14 from 10 balls, hitting two sixes before being dismissed.India were bowled out at 190 for seven, but England chased down the target with four wickets in hand and an over to spare, to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after the opening match.Jacob Bethell played with an unbeaten 76 off 46 balls, hitting four fours and five fives. The left-hander took control of the chase and scored 29 runs off Ravi Bishnoi, extending his century and helping England complete the chase in 19 overs.
