A full house of 31,180 fans is expected at the iconic venue as England look to maintain their perfect World Cup record at home. The players have never lost a World Cup on home soil, having won all four of the records held in England.
Standing in their way are six-time champions Australia, who are chasing a seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title.
The famous fighters meet again for the last time
This will be the fourth Women’s T20 World Cup final between England and Australia. The two sides have previously met in the title race in 2012, 2014 and 2018.
England are chasing a second Women’s T20 World Cup after winning the inaugural tournament in 2009, which was also played at Lord’s. Current England head coach Charlotte Edwards led the team to a historic victory.
Meanwhile, Australia has dominated the tournament for many years, winning the tournament in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023.
Australia entered the final with confidence
Australia will enter the final with confidence after a strong performance in the tournament.
They also have a psychological advantage, having handed England a 16-0 Ashes whitewash over Australia earlier last year, including a 3-0 T20I series sweep.
Under new captain Sophie Molineux, Australia will continue their winning streak. Molineux have also become their leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in six games.
The defending champions booked their place in the final by knocking out India at Lord’s before defeating the West Indies by eight wickets in the semifinal.
Australia were boosted by Phoebe Litchfield’s return from a quadriceps injury in the win over India. However, the fitness of all-rounder Ellyse Perry remains a concern after she retired with a quadriceps injury in the semifinal against the West Indies. Perry, however, trained on the final night.
England were boosted by the captain’s return
England have received a huge boost as captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt has returned to form in good time. He played a match-winning 75 off 47 balls against South Africa to help England reach the final.
Opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge has also enjoyed a successful campaign. He is currently the top scorer in the tournament with 294 runs and will be the key to England’s hopes of lifting the trophy in front of their home team.
