CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk finally have something to say about Christopher Nolan‘The Odyssey’, a first since Tom Holland and Matt Damon starrer epic opened in theaters.In a post on social media, Musk claimed that his AI tool Grok Imagine will create a “historically accurate” full-length film of ‘The Odyssey’ by the end of 2026.“Before the end of this year, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” the tweet read, posted alongside an AI-generated clip from the Nolan film.In a reply to another post, the businessman also shared his openness to providing a director Mel Gibson a USD 100 million budget to create a historically accurate retelling of the Greek epic. One netizen suggested, “I want Elon Musk to give Mel Gibson $100 million to film an adaptation of the Odyssey with historically accurate ships, armor, weapons, and casting, with all dialogue taken directly from the original poem and delivered in Homeric Greek.”Reacting to the post, Musk said, “I fell.”Remarkably, the comment came months after Musk criticized Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, over the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. Reacting to the casting on social media platform X, conservative commentator Matt Walsh wrote, “Not a single person on the planet actually thinks Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’ But Christopher Nolan knew he would be called a racist if he gave the role of ‘the most beautiful woman’ to a white woman.Responding to the post, Musk commented, “True.”Earlier this month, ahead of the film’s release, Musk shared an AI-generated trailer for ‘Iliad’—inspired by Homer’s epic tale of the Trojan War—made using xAI’s newly released Grok Imagine 1.5 video-generation model. Posting the video on his handle, he praised the technology behind the project. Responding to Musk, the twitter handle Heavy Pulp wrote, “So much fun putting this together for all of you!” Musk, seemingly impressed with the results, floated a more ambitious idea, replying, “Do you want to make a full movie?”Based on Homer’s epic poem, ‘The Odyssey’ follows the story of Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War. The film stars Matt Damon in the lead role, along with Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and an ensemble cast.
Mel Gibson prepares for the release of ‘The Resurrection of Christ’
Meanwhile, Mel Gibson is currently working on his long-awaited biblical epic ‘The Resurrection of Christ’, the sequel to the 2004 blockbuster ‘The Passion of the Christ’.The makers have announced that the sequel will be released in two parts. Part One, originally scheduled for March 2026, will be released on May 6, 2027, while Part Two will arrive on May 25, 2028. According to Variety, both films are scheduled to be released on Ascension Day, the Christian holiday that commemorates Jesus Christ’s ascension into heaven.“I am so grateful to my incredibly talented cast and crew for pouring their hearts into this production. Together, we are creating something powerful,” Gibson said in a press release. He added, “This film represents a major part of my life’s work, and it demands everything from me as a filmmaker and as an artist. It’s more than a film for me. It’s a mission I’ve carried for over 20 years to tell what I believe is the most important story in human history.“Gibson added that reuniting with many collaborators from The Passion of the Christ helped bring his vision to life.“Reuniting with many of my original collaborators from The Passion of the Christ — true masters of their craft — allowed us to bring this story to the screen as I envisioned it, with the great support of my longtime partner, Adam.
