New Delhi: Spanish substitute Ferran Torres has signed his name FIFA World Cup record after scoring the winning goal in the 106th minute of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Argentina at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday. With the strike, Torres became only the second substitute to score the winning goal in a World Cup Final, equaling Germany’s Mario Götze, who also won against Argentina at the end of 2014. Torres came off the bench in the 62nd minute and impressed as Spain beat defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time to lift their second FIFA World Cup title. Spain’s first World Cup victory took place in 2010.
