Indian bowler Mukesh Kumar On Friday he was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by the Bihar government under his “Medal Lao Naukri Pao” policy. He said the policy will encourage players in the state to work hard.Mukesh received an appointment letter from Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in Patna. India pacer Akash Deep was also selected as DSP under the same sports recruitment scheme.Speaking after the event, Mukesh welcomed the policy and said it would encourage young athletes to continue their sports career.“I, along with the Biharis, am very happy about this. This will encourage all the athletes who are working hard. Work hard and stay positive,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.The 32-year-old right-handed bowler from Gopalganj has represented India in all three formats of international cricket. He also plays for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Bengal in domestic matches.Mukesh made his Test, ODI and T20I debuts during India’s tour of the West Indies in 2023, becoming one of the few Indian players to make his debut in all three formats within two weeks.He has also been an important member of the Delhi Capitals army. Bought for Rs 5.50 crore before IPL 2023, Mukesh finished as the highest wicket-taker in 2024 with 17 wickets. Delhi Capitals later retained him through a Right to Match (RTM) card for Rs 8 crore in the main IPL market.According to the Bihar State Sports Authority, the ‘Medal Lao, Naukri Pao’ policy provides government jobs directly to athletes who win medals in national and international competitions. Under this scheme, the medal winners are selected for posts like Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sub-Inspector and Panchayati Raj Officer without going through regular examinations.Sharing photos of the event, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the state government remained committed to identifying sports talent, improving sports facilities and providing opportunities to athletes to excel and bring good to Bihar and India.
