Christopher Nolan has built his entire career on the belief that the real world is more cinematic than anything a screen can produce, and ‘The Odyssey’ takes that philosophy further than any film he’s ever made. Shooting in six countries with large-format theatrical cameras and no green screens, Nolan took Homer’s ancient epic and found its scenes alive and waiting in the real world. At CinemaCon in April, he described the experience as “an absolute nightmare to film, but in all the right ways,” adding, “we went all over the world to make this film because it’s The Odyssey.
