Veteran actor Javed Jaaferi believes that great fame can sometimes be a limitation for actors rather than an advantage. Refers to: Amitabh BachchanTaking career as an example, Jaaved says that commercial pressures often prevent even the biggest stars from exploring unconventional roles. He also reflects on the younger generation of actors, the issue of typecasting, and why he still feels he has more to offer as a performer despite spending more than four decades in the industry.The 63-year-old looks back on his long journey in films and talks about how Bollywood and its audience have changed over the years.Sharing his thoughts on the current crop of actors, Jaaved said that every generation brings its own positives and negatives. While he admires the young performers for their professionalism and determination, he feels that they often lack patience. “I think the younger lot, they are in a hurry and they are not very accommodating and all that. The good part is they are professional, they’re very serious, they’re very focused on what they want. So yes, it has its minuses and pluses,” he said in an interview in the city with HT. According to him, such differences are natural because each generation has a different approach.Jaaved also opened up about the film industry’s tendency to repeatedly cast actors in roles that have proven successful. Although he says he’s lucky to avoid being boxed into one image, he acknowledges that commercial success often dictates future casting choices.“I can’t say I’m stereotyped. I’ve done everything. I’ve played villains, I’ve played crazy men, serious films, this, that and the rest. I have done everything. What happens is that whatever is better in business, people will start approaching you with that in mind, that it works with him. That applies even to the biggest stars because once you become a product, they don’t let you down. That’s a sad place.“To illustrate his point, Jaaved quoted Amitabh Bachchan, saying that even the legendary actor experienced a time when commercial considerations limited his creative choices.“There was a period when no one was bigger than Mr. Bachchan. There was a period when (veteran actor) Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan could not do anything else because it did not work. Again, he was limited because the commercial aspects did not allow him to act.Reflecting on his own career, Jaaved said that he deliberately avoided appearing on screen too often, believing that pursuing different and spaced out projects helped him maintain his longevity.“As an actor, though I have done a lot of work. But you have to space yourself out. The moment you saturate yourself, then it becomes a problem because when you have done everything. But by the grace of God, I manage it just right. I’ve played a villain, I’ve played crazy guys, done serious films as well. Yet I feel there is a lot more left to explore in me.”
