The ‘Ramayana:trailer could not debut on Friday, but the film’s cast and creators still treated the San Diego Comic Con audience with a first look at what lies ahead. The biggest moment of the panel came when Yash took the lead and: Ranbir Kapoor singing each other’s praises for their depictions of Ravana and Lord Rama. Ranbir noted that Yash’s Ravana, as envisioned in Nitesh Tiwari’s film, moves away from the ‘stereotypical portrayals’ that have been given to the character in recent times.
Ranbir Kapoor to share the screen with Yash
Taking the stage at the ‘Ramayana’ panel, Ranbir touched on the experience of sharing the film with Yash. He said, “Lord Rama and Ravana will be together at the end of the film, which may be a meeting in the middle. But, I know Yash for sometime now and I am a big fan of his work. I really believe we need someone with his aura, his stardom, his vision to play this role.“Touching on how this Ravana stands apart from previous depictions in Nitesh Tiwari’s films, Ranbir added, “He plays it with so much swag, aura, and sincerity that he really makes Ravana come alive. Over the years, we have had a stereotypical portrayal of Ravana, but not this.”
Yash on the importance of intention
Yash, on the other hand, said that his faith in the film rested on the team’s intention. “The goal is the most important thing. If you have the right goal and the right team, everything will fall into place. This story itself has many aspects where we started to think about many aspects of life while making this film. Technically, yes, it is demanding to make and look. We love stories and we give everything to bring them in the most authentic way. And I think we have done that in a good way is what I believe,” said the Kannada star.
The trailer launch has been postponed, says Namit Malhotra
The team’s Comic Con outing was originally set to end with the global unveiling of the trailer on Friday morning, but producer Namit Malhotra shared that the launch has been pushed to a later date. In a post on social media, he wrote, “Today is a very special moment for our “Ramayana”, my dream of bringing Ramayana to the world has now come true with our partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment. In light of the above we will launch our trailer today worldwide at a later date. “With more than 100 years of Indian cinema it will be a moment of great pride where Ramayana will be shown around the world like any other major global Hindi film. It is special because it opens the door for the people of the world to discover the richness of our culture and our stories with renewed pride and enthusiasm.”
About ‘Ramayana’
Helmed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Ramayana’ is being made as a two-part epic, with the first installment set to hit theaters this November. The film brings together Ranbir Kapoor and Yash with Sai Pallavi as Sita, along with Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor: and a large ensemble cast rounding out the lineup.
