Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is all set to make an epic debut at the Indian box office this Friday. The filmmaker’s much-awaited mythological epic, which is slated to hit the theaters on July 17, has reportedly witnessed a spectacular start to its box office run with advance booking reports suggesting that the film is on its way to scoring an opening day gross collection of over Rs 20 crore, with trade estimates suggesting that the collections could even touch Rs 25 crore.

‘The Odyssey’ has crossed Rs 10 crore advance bookings

With just hours to go before its grand debut, the film has reportedly sold tickets worth approximately Rs 10 crore gross, including blocked seats, for its opening day, as reported by Sacnilk. Advance booking numbers set the film to be one of the biggest Hollywood openers of the year in India.The film has witnessed strong demand in IMAX, 4DX and other premium large format (PLF) screens, where ticket rates, even for morning shows, are anywhere between Rs 700 and Rs 2,800. Some theaters are even reporting sold-out shows while others are filling up fast.

Premium formats drive collections

Nolan, who already has a huge fanbase in the country, has a wide release for the film in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. This wide release is expected to make big bucks at the box office this weekend. If the film continues to maintain its pace, it might just score a whopping Rs 25 crore gross debut in India.

“The Odyssey” opened to good reviews

‘The Odyssey’ opened with a solid 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 79 critics in reviews. The film will only benefit from the positive word of the audience, and the bookings in the area which may emerge as one of the highest grossing films of 2026.

‘The Odyssey’ hit USD 200 million at the global box office

Meanwhile, according to a report by Deadline, ‘The Odyssey’ is expected to earn between USD 90 million and USD 100 million in its opening weekend in North America, while worldwide collections are expected to exceed USD 200 million.With a reported production budget of around USD 250 million, the film, which is believed to be the director’s most expensive film to date, may just exceed the production budget in its opening weekend.

‘The Odyssey’ cast and release date

Based on the ancient Greek epic, ‘The Odyssey’ stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and has an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal and Benny Safdie. The film will be released in theaters worldwide on July 17.
