Delhi witnessed nearly 50,000 protesters take to the streets for the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march, which marched from Jantar Mantar to Parliament. As footage from the capital began circulating online, Huma Qureshi responded to reports of an alleged police lathi-charge on students and demonstrators. On Instagram, the actress posted a long note revealing that the incident left her with “a deep sense of sadness.”

Taking to her Instagram, Huma wrote, “The visuals from today will stay with me for a long time. Seeing peaceful protesters met with such brutal force and lathi leaves me with a deep sense of sadness.He added, “We, the people of India, elected this government and now we all have to ask questions and expect accountability. We are a big, diverse nation.“Respect to every student and every citizen who chooses to stand peacefully for what they believe in. Jai Hind,” he concluded.
Hema Malini, Kangana Ranaut slam the protest
Hema Malini and Kangana Ranaut, who were present on the opening day of the Monsoon Session, spoke to reporters and expressed their disapproval of the protest. Hema said, “If there is a problem, it should be discussed properly. Protesting in this way will not achieve anything. As for the youth of the country and the education system, our Modi government has always stood by them and is doing a great job. Because of that, the protests you are doing now have no meaning.“Kangana stated, “If you feel so strongly, you should stand for elections yourself. You cannot arm-twist the government to decide who to remove and who to keep; this kind of arm-twisting is not acceptable. Gradually, everyone will turn to the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sanatan culture because it is our own culture, while everything else is borrowed from the rest of the world.”
Celebrities extend their support
The Jantar Mantar protest saw celebrities like Prakash Raj, veteran actor Shabana Azmi, and Naseeruddin Shah among the attendees. Previously, including many other stars Soni RazdanZeenat Aman, Abhay Deol, Sonakshi SinhaOmi Vaidya, Imran Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, and Ratna Pathak Shah, took to social media to show their support for Sonam Wangchuk and the protesters observed a hunger strike.
