New Delhi: Former Australian opener David Warner pleaded guilty to drink driving after being stopped during a breathalyzer test in Sydney in April, according to the BBC.Warner’s lawyer, Bobby Hill, confirmed that the former Australian cricketer pleaded guilty to the charge.Warner was charged after failing a roadside breath test in Sydney’s east on April 5. Police later took him to Maroubra Police Station, where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.104, more than twice the legal limit.“The parties are discussing the facts,” Hill told the court.“He admits it was a reckless decision, a stupid decision to get in his car instead of taking Uber,” Hill said.“It is not a crime to have a glass of wine on the day of the Lord’s resurrection. In fact, some may consider this to be completely appropriate,” said the lawyer.“His crime is, as I said, choosing a stupid plan A instead of plan B,” he said.
Judgment on August 18
Warner will be sentenced on August 18. He faces a minimum ban of six months, a possible fine of up to A$2,200 and a maximum sentence of nine months.
Another controversy for Warner
The former Australian player has been involved in many high-profile controversies.In 2018, he was banned for 12 months for ball tampering in South Africa after Cricket Australia discovered that he had planned to alter the ball’s shape by using sandpaper.
