The ‘Jana Nayagan’ fever is spreading all over the world. Japanese fans in kimono attend Thalapathy Vijay’s FDFS in Chennai

The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’, the last film starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, turned into a huge celebration across Tamil Nadu on Thursday. While thousands of fans gathered outside the theaters for the first day’s first show, two visitors from Japan became the center of attention with their unique tribute to the actor. The women arrived outside Chennai’s Rohini Cinema wearing traditional kimonos. They also brought Japanese fans and proudly displayed customized posters dedicated to Vijay. The posters carried by the duo read, “Greatest of the Time Thalapathy Japan Fans.” Clips of fans celebrating outside the theater soon went viral on social media.

The opening day celebrations resemble a festival

The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’ witnessed huge celebrations in many theatres. Fans organized drum performances, decorative displays, banners and cut-outs to welcome Vijay’s last film. For many admirers, the film was more than a theatrical release. This marked the end of Vijay’s acting career before he fully dedicated himself to public service after his entry into politics and his tenure as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

A lot of expectations surround Vijay’s farewell film

Trade experts have predicted a strong opening for ‘Jana Nayagan’, pointing to Vijay’s loyal fan base and the historical significance of his last appearance on the big screen. Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ has Pooja Hegde opposite Vijay, while Bobby Deol is the main antagonist. The ensemble cast also includes Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Narain, and other prominent actors in important roles. The music of the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Its background songs and score had already gained popularity before the theatrical release, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

Mixed reviews for ‘Jana Nayagan’

Meanwhile, mixed reviews poured in for the film. One Tweet read, “I watched #BhagavanthKesari (2023) after watching #LEO (2023). I enjoyed Bhagavanth Kesari in parts, though not completely. That said, #JanaNayagan, which is a partial remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, is an above average political action thriller. Another wrote, “Overall, JANA NAYAGAN is an above average which is a political action thriller raised by TALAPATHY VijayScreen presence and fun sequences, but held back by an uneven screenplay and an uninteresting villain track. As THALAPATHY Vijay’s last film, it still offers enough fans to make it a worthwhile watch.”
