BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla denied the rumours Rohit SharmaThe future international, saying there is “no question” that India’s opener will be rested at this stage despite much speculation on the recent tour of England.Questions over Rohit’s future have come after a prolonged slump with the bat, with reports suggesting that the third ODI against England at Lord’s could be his last appearance for India. However, the 39-year-old answered these doubts emphatically by smashing 138 off 110 balls, becoming the first Indian batsman to score an ODI century at the iconic venue.Speaking to the media, Shukla refuted the rumors of retirement and insisted that there is no truth in the rumours.“Rohit Sharma is a part of our team and he continues to play. The things that are being spread in the media and TV have no meaning. From now on, there is no question of his retirement,” said Shukla.Rohit’s century at Lord’s further cemented his views on his future. India’s opening batsmen have insisted that they want to continue representing the country and are determined to earn a place in India’s 2027 ODI World Cup squad.In an interview with BCCI.tv after his match-winning performance, Rohit made it clear that outside opinions will not interfere with his position.“My job is with the bat. Come and play, represent my country, represent my team. That’s what I’ve been told to do since my inception so that’s what I have to do,” said Rohit.“The noise from when I first made it was there. And as long as I’m here, it’s always going to be there. So it doesn’t really matter much. The important thing is what I do on the pitch, to try and help the team succeed. That’s all I’m looking for right now. And let the noise be there. If there is no noise, there is no fun.”Shukla also rejected calls for a change in the Indian leadership team following criticism leveled at the captain Shubman Gill is a great teacher Gautam Gambhir.“Everyone has the right to take their own opinion, but the decision of who will remain in the team is who will not be on the selectors.” Team India is doing well and winning matches, so there is no reason to change now,” Shukla said.While Rohit’s century at Lord’s was one of the highlights of the tour, India ended the United Kingdom leg on a disappointing note. The visitors lost the ODI series against England 2-1 after losing 2-0 to Ireland and losing 4-0 in the T20I series against England.
