New Delhi: As Indian athletes chase medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, an important competition is also taking place away from the spotlight. Behind every sport is the medical team of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), which works round the clock to ensure that the athletes are fit, recover quickly and are ready to compete at their desired time.Under the guidance of renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, the IOA medical team has been active since the team arrived in Scotland. With the help of physiotherapists Sumansh Sivalanka, Chris Pedra and Debashish Das, the team oversees the management of injuries, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and rehabilitation of various systems.“This is a great journey as my team consisting of Sumansh Sivalanka, Chris Pedra and Debashish Das are working with the athletes even before the Games start.

For me, personally, it is encouraging when team managers come to tell me that our presence is encouraging and adds value,” said Dr. Pardiwala. The task has been made more difficult due to the lack of a central village for Athletes in Glasgow 2026. With the Indian expansion spread across three hotels, the IOA has set up its main support center at the Mercure Hotel while sending medical staff to all teams to ensure that the athletes have access to immediate assistance whenever they need it.The clinic also offers small services such as swimming and exercise, which are not carried out by dedicated doctors or physiotherapists. Major teams, including athletes, have their own medical staff, but continue to coordinate with the central IOA system. For athletes who compete on multiple days, recovery has become as important as training. Physiotherapy sessions, movement work and equipment rehabilitation are designed to reduce the risk of injury and help competitors perform better.“The biggest joy is seeing the smiles on the faces of the athletes after working hard,” said Dr. Pardiwala. While the medals will dominate the headlines in the coming days, every finish will also be indebted to the doctors, physiotherapists and support staff whose work begins before the athletes enter the stadium and often continues long after the competition. For the IOA, the mission goes beyond medals – to ensure that every Indian athlete competes with the confidence that a dedicated team is behind them.
