The players go into the two matches with renewed confidence after a 1-0 win over Sri Lanka, their first win in the current WTC tournament. Pakistan, meanwhile, have struggled in recent months, losing three Tests in a row after starting their campaign with a win in South Africa.
Babar Azam returns as captain after replacing Shan Masood, whose team lost 12 of the 16 Tests he was in charge of. Babar also enjoyed a boost, scoring a century against the West Indies Select XI, while opener Azan Awais hit a century and returning pacer Mohammad Ali took five wickets.
Pakistan were forced to make changes after opener Abdullah Fazal was ruled out with a back injury. Imam-ul-Haq will return to his partner Awais at the top, while left-arm pacer Ali Usman will make his test debut ahead of the experienced Sajid Khan.
West Indies fielded a formidable attack from Kemar Roach, Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales, with Jomel Warrican as the only specialist spinner after Alzarri Joseph was out of the lineup.
The match is also the first Test to be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, the 13th test venue in the Caribbean.
