Indian captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that his side had failed in all departments after England won five T20Is and won by nine wickets in the fourth T20I at the County Ground in Bristol.Despite scoring an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls, Iyer said his performance meant little as India cruised to a massive victory, losing in a series yet to be played.“Again, it was disappointing. Of course, 158 was not enough on the board. And in the end we saw how fast they ran,” said Iyer after the match.India posted 158/7 after recovering from an early collapse, but England reversed the target in just 13.5 overs thanks to an unbeaten partnership between them. Harry Brook and Phil Salt.Reflecting on India’s bowling, Iyer revealed the team’s goals, but admitted that the bowlers have failed to deliver consistently.“When we got to bowling, I just asked our bowlers to repeat the length as much as possible because above the middle stump and leg, it was very difficult to hit and put a boundary on it. So I think we fell a little bit in terms of our execution. We saw that when we changed the pace, when we tried something else, they beat the loose balls,” he explained. While Iyer’s knock was one of India’s best performances, the skipper insisted that the feat was worthless without a win.“I’m very happy with my performance, but if it’s not because of the win, it just goes to the side. I’m disappointed because every time I play, I want to do it and see that my team wins. But unfortunately, today was not that day. I’m definitely looking forward to the next game,” he said.
England crush India by 9 wickets
England sealed the fifth T20I match with a massive nine-wicket win over India in the fourth match at the County Ground, Bristol, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead. Electing to bat, India recovered from an early slump thanks to captain Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 80 off 49 balls, which helped them post 158/7. However, it all fell short as Harry Brook smashed an unbeaten 79 and Phil Salt remained unbeaten on 59, sharing a massive century partnership to chase down the target in just 13.5 overs. The win marked England’s first T20I win against India in a series of two or more matches, while India’s second consecutive T20I defeat against the teams.
