Aamir Khan landed in controversy just days after marrying longtime partner Gauri Spratt, with a Muslim cleric who opposed their interfaith marriage and declared it impermissible under his interpretation of Islamic law.The actor, who married Gauri in an intimate registered ceremony on July 5, 2026, did not respond to comments. His team also remained silent on the matter.
The clergy opposed Aamir-Gauri’s marriage
According to ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta, has issued a fatwa against Aamir Khan for his marriage to Gauri Spratt, saying it is against Sharia as she is not a Muslim.In a video that surfaced on the internet, the cleric said, “Muslim mard ke liye, iman walon ke liye, gair Muslim se shaadi karna haraam hai.”He added that a Muslim man who marries a non-Muslim woman commits a sin and said that those who do not accept it as sinful will ultimately be held accountable to Allah.

The Maulana also commented on the practice of marrying, divorcing and remarrying, saying that it is unjust if a person cannot fulfill the responsibilities of each marriage equally.Referring to Aamir Khan, he said, “This question is about film actor Aamir Khan. He has recently entered into a third marriage with a non-Muslim woman. Related to that, we have also seen protests happening in the society…”Neither Aamir Khan nor his representatives have commented on the cleric’s comments or the reported fatwa.

Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratt, a Bengaluru-based entrepreneur in the beauty and health industry, in a private registered ceremony under the Special Marriage Act on July 5. Gauri has a son from her previous marriage.Before marrying Gauri, Aamir was married to Reena Dutta, with whom he had two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. The couple divorced in 2002 after 16 years of marriage.She later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005.
