Amitabh Bachchan personally called The House of Abhinandan Lodha founder and chairman Abhinandan Lodha at around 3 am to inquire about buying land in Ayodhya and transferred Rs 15 crore the next day after knowing the price, the real estate businessman revealed.Speaking at the Hindustan Times India Next Real Estate Summit 2026, Lodha recalled that he was in Australia in 2023 when he noticed some missed calls and a message from the Bollywood superstar.“There were a couple of missed calls, followed by a message that read, ‘This is Amitabh Bachchan, please call back when convenient.’ I literally stood up and called him back,” said Lodha.Recalling their conversation, Lodha said Bachchan told him, “Abhinandan ji, main UP se hoon aur mujhe Ayodhya ji mein land leni hai (I am a native of Uttar Pradesh and I want to buy land in the holy city of Ayodhya).”“I told him, we will do it for you,” he added.According to Lodha, Bachchan first asked about the price of the land.“I replied, ‘How can I tell you the price?’ He said he wanted to buy 15,000 sq ft and I told him it would be about Rs 15 crore, and the next day he sent me Rs 15 crore,” recalls Lodha.
Amitabh Bachchan increased his investments in Ayodhya
Bachchan has been steadily expanding his real estate portfolio in Ayodhya over the past few years. In March 2026, he bought a 2.67-acre parcel of land worth Rs 35 crore from The House of Abhinandan Lodha. According to the company, this marks its third investment in Ayodhya and fourth planned purchase in the HoABL development. The parcel of land is located near the company’s 75-acre project, The Sarayu.Commenting on the investment at the time, Lodha said, “Bachchan’s investment reflects a shared belief in land as an intergenerational asset that preserves value over the long term.”“At HoABL, we see land not only as wealth but as a heritage. In Ayodhya, this heritage has a deep meaning, a virasat where faith and heritage come together. Supported by continuous infrastructure development and public investment, Ayodhya has emerged as a compelling destination for long-term land ownership and sustainable value creation,” he said. Before that, in May 2025, Bachchan bought a 25,000 sq ft plot next to The Sarayu for around Rs 40 crore. In 2024, he bought a 10,000 sq ft plot in HoABL’s flagship mixed-use development, The Sarayu, for Rs 14.5 crore.
