Arguing, kicking throats and violent arguments
The victory ceremony was followed by chaos on the pitch as Spain sealed victory.Footage showed Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes appearing to kick Spain defender Eric Garcia in the neck during the fierce confrontation.When Spanish substitute Gavi stepped in to separate the players, Paredes appeared to push him to the ground.Spain captain Rodri also appeared to be punched in the stomach by Argentina defenders Nahuel Molina, Molina and Nicolas Otamendi before colliding with the midfielder as they tussled.Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni and several players rushed to calm things down before it escalated.
FIFA opens an investigation
Following the scandal, FIFA confirmed that it has opened an investigation into the incident.In a statement, FIFA said that “the disciplinary committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Representative to investigate violations of the (FIFA disciplinary code) in the post-match incident.
