Many fans argued that young star Dexter Sol Ansell, who played Egg, deserved recognition for his performance, with some calling the loss one of the biggest surprises of this year’s Emmy nominations.Months before the nominations were announced, in an exclusive roundtable interview, ETimes asked Dexter and his co-star Peter Claffey about the growing awards surrounding the show and the young actor. By then, comparisons were drawn to the ‘Adolescence’ breakout Owen Cooper and his impressive awards-season run.Asked if he thought Dexter would receive the same recognition, Peter had nothing but praise for his young co-star, saying, “Uh, yes, 100%. Have you seen all the episodes? There was a point at the end of six, I remember looking like, ‘This is really amazing, amazing acting from a kid too’.”While acknowledging the excitement surrounding the awards recognition, Peter admitted that he wished his co-star would focus less on the awards. Peter explained, “I’d rather Dexter not think about anything. Of course, it’s hard not to look at all those things when you get to the point of a show like this, but… And if you’re proud of your own performance, and if you get nominated for something, that’s great, you can charge them more money the next time you come. But once he’s proud of his own performance, that’s it, I’m happy and I’m proud of his performance.”Dexter, in turn, replied, “I don’t care about that.
