According to the latest reports, Ed Sheeran is the main inspiration behind the latest initiative of the British government to support the growth of music. Called ‘Turn It Up’. Our Plan for Music’, the UK government has announced a new funding initiative to work on growing music programs for young people across England.

According to recent Sky News reports, the government’s latest ‘Music In Libraries’ initiative was designed in partnership with the Irish singer’s foundation named after the singer. Teachers, youth clubs and industry experts will all come together to provide insight into the development of the program, as confirmed from statements made by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.Reportedly, about GBP 12.5 million has been allocated for this upcoming project. The main aim of the future project is set to ensure that young people from all over England have access to mentorship and education everywhere, for free. In addition, around 150 library authorities will get access to funding to create studios, recording booths, mixing desks, and acquire all kinds of equipment needed to set up space for children.The overall funding for the programs will come from the Dormant Assets Scheme. This scheme is set by the government to reuse unclaimed financial resources and assets and allocate them to initiatives like this. Culture secretary Lisa Nandy echoed the same and shared, “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. After a decade of mindless vandalism that stripped culture and creativity from too many classrooms and communities, we are putting music back at the heart of education, investing in creative careers and supporting music across the country.He also added that it “includes everyone, not just the privileged few.”This initiative has been in development since 2024, after the ‘Shape of You’ singer and the secretary of culture visited a non-profit organization that works as a live music and youth arts organization for young people.Last year, Sheeran, along with Harry Styles and Stormzy, wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in March. The musicians are calling for some action and initiative to be taken by the government to save the music infrastructure in England.On the other hand, during one of his latest concerts, the singer announced that he will soon be taking another break to focus on his family and personal life.
