IND vs ENG: Away from the T20I showdown, India starts preparing for the ODI series today

TimesofIndia.com in Birmingham: More than 200 kilometers away from Southampton, where the Indian T20I team will look to remain unbeaten against England in the fifth and final match, preparations for the ODI will begin. Seven members of India’s ODI squad are expected to hit the nets at Edgbaston ahead of the match on July 14.Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill will both be in London ahead of the three games. As TimesofIndia.com reported, Rohit had several stints in local clubs in and around London, using the help of young players.It’s an important role for the 39-year-old Rohit and the 37-year-old Virat. Rohit suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL but came back in time against Afghanistan where he scored 16, 48 and 79 runs, respectively.Kohli, meanwhile, is making his first appearance since the IPL 2026 final where he suffered a hamstring injury. It forced him to miss the three ODIs against Afghanistan, with Yashasvi Jaiswal replacing him. Now that Kohli is fit and available, Jaiswal is not counting even if he is firing a ton against the Afghans.Kohli, too, has hit the ground running after getting a clear cut at the CoE in late June. He has been facing regular sessions at Lord’s, which is the venue for the third ODI.Skipper Gill, too, has been in the UK for the past week and has had a number of training sessions in the area. He also participated in the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone and graced the Wimbledon Royal Box in the semi-final between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Gurnoor Brar and KL Rahul arrived in Birmingham on Friday. The quartet is also expected to participate in one-third of the practice sessions in India before the series begins.The ODI series begins on July 14 in Birmingham before moving to Cardiff (July 16) and London (July 19).
