Speaking to PEOPLE at the opening night of her off-Broadway musical on July 10, Nettles shared her perspective on being a part of the couple’s momentous occasion. “To be a part of even a small part of their story for me is very special because, obviously, these are two people who are at the absolute top of their industry, the top of their game, the top of their craft, the top of their art,” he said. “This is an important time in their lives. To witness that very special moment, it was wonderful.”

While Swift, 36, and Nettles have long been admirers of each other and collaborated on a hit song in 2018, the former television personality admitted that receiving an invitation to the big celebration surprised her. The secrecy surrounding the event means very few details have been confirmed in advance. “All this surprised me, because of course, no one knows anything. I think people have – there are leaks here and there where people are guessing, but no one is sure where we will go until closer to the time,” he explained.In the end, approximately 1,000 guests gathered at the iconic New York City arena to support the couple. The celebration featured Swift and Kelce reading their vows from golden books, each spending about 20 minutes in the exchange. A comedy actor presided over the ceremony, while Swift’s brother Austin served as her man of honor and Kelce’s brother Jason served as her best man.
