Love of English Cricket Brendon McCullumHis tenure as Test coach has ended with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) sacking him on Sunday after four years in office. The ECB, however, has retained its services to white football clubs. The Nzambi festival has become a real festival Ben Stokes he hung up his boots in difficult circumstances two days ago, and one that saw England humiliated in the Ashes in Australia and lost 1-2 to New Zealand at home last month. McCullum’s dismissal, therefore, brings the curtains down on ‘Bazball’ – a form of highly dangerous cricket introduced by McCullum and Stokes in 2022.“Of course, I have a problem not to continue, but I respect the decision. My goal now is to give everything I have to the White Ball teams and help England to progress,” said McCullum in a release by the ECB. ECB chief Richard Gould said now is the right time to make a change as he bids to win the Ashes at home next summer.English cricket’s interest in McCullum can be traced back to 2015 when Eoin Morgan revived the team’s white ball game, winning the 2019 World Cup, led by McCullum’s successful leadership that took New Zealand to the final of the 2015 ODI World Cup.Bazball impressed the cricketing community everywhere, but its greatest success was perhaps the success of English cricket with the thrills of winning the ordinary Test game. It didn’t just pull England’s Test cricket out of a hole under Joe Root, it freed Root who batted himself. Batting at an average of 4.5-5 runs per over and chasing a score of over 350 in the final stages of a Test match, McCullum used the principle of blocking lines between all three forms of the game.In his first year, strange victories over New Zealand and India at home were followed by knocking Pakistan off their concrete courts, upsetting the world order. From being the proud standard bearers, the England team took a big hit and changed the type of cricket they started playing. Players often refer to their status as mercenaries for Test Cricket. However, good results did not find them. In these four years, England failed to win against Australia and India in addition to failing to qualify for the World Test Championship.Cracks in their game began to appear last year when an inexperienced Indian team under new captain Shubman Gill repeatedly defied their ‘we’ll chase-anything’ approach in a series that ended 2-2.It was a type of cricket that flirted with the boom-orburst type. It delighted the cricket world when it came out, but consistency is not rare. During the tour of India last year, Root and Stokes showed that they have deviated from the more restrictive approach in terms of how the match was played. The ash was an implosion and now needs to be buried.‘Bazball’ announced to the world that there is another way to play Test cricket. If only he understood that it wasn’t the only way.
