New Delhi: The French captain Kylian Mbappe made history on Thursday by becoming the first player since 1966 to register 10 or more goals in two separate FIFA World Cup matches.The 27-year-old reached his peak with a goal and assist in France’s 2-0 win over Morocco in the quarter-finals of the World Cup. Mbappe finished with 10 goals at the 2022 World Cup and has already scored 11 goals in 2026.

It was another record breaking night for the French player.Mbappe became the youngest player to score 20 FIFA World Cup appearance and the fastest player to reach 20 goals in the history of the competition.His strike in the 60th minute was the 20th World Cup goal of his career, leaving him with one Lionel MessiA regular score of 21.The Real Madrid star is back at the top of the Golden Boot standings. Mbappe and Messi both have eight goals in the competition, but the Frenchman leads with three assists compared to Messi.

Mbappe also entered the special list after playing against Morocco.He became the fourth player in the last 60 years to score, assist and miss a penalty in the same World Cup match. Amazingly, the miss has now happened twice in the last three days, with Lionel Messi doing it against Egypt before Mbappe repeated it against Morocco.It was also the third time Mbappe scored and assisted in the same World Cup match. The only player to have done it more times in the past 60 years is Messi, who has achieved the feat five times.

Mbappe’s impressive display helped France beat Morocco 2-0 and book their place in the World Cup.Ousmane Dembele scored France’s second goal as Les Bleus came close to becoming the third nation to reach the final of the World Cup three times in a row.France extended another impressive record, registering their sixth World Cup victory in a game led by Argentina, the most by any nation.The game was also Mbappe’s 20th World Cup appearance under Didier Deschamps, the most by any player under the same coach.France will now face either Spain or Belgium in the semifinals in Dallas.
