Women’s cricket is set to conquer yet another arena. One hundred and forty-two years after they staged their first men’s Test, Lord’s Cricket Ground will finally host Women’s Test cricket on Friday when England take on India in a four-day clash. The landmark event comes 50 years after Lord’s created the first women’s tournament, when England defeated Australia by eight wickets in an ODI on Aug 4, 1976.The inaugural Women’s Test at Lord’s is expected to be played in front of the biggest crowd in the tournament’s history. “More than 30,000 tickets have already been snapped up over four days for the legendary Rothesay England v India Women’s Test, making it one of the most popular matches in the world,” Lord’s said in a news release.“I am very surprised that this is the first Test for women here at Lord’s,” the Indian coach said Amol Muzumdar he said on Wednesday.Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur agreed with this opinion, saying that the ceremony was just a dream.“It’s a huge moment for all of us. As a captain and as a player, I’m really looking forward to this opportunity. As kids, we always dream of playing Test cricket, and playing at Lord’s is one of those dreams. All the girls are very excited.” India, however, faced a setback in the evening of the match when opener Pratika Rawal was ruled out due to a knee injury. Priya Punia has replaced him in the team.
