Rasika Dugal wonders if Mirzapur's OTT fanbase will choose theaters, 'I hope our very loyal...'
Rasika Dugal is excited about ‘Mirzapur. The Movie’, calling the film series a first for Indian entertainment. He hopes that loyal OTT fans will embrace the theaters. Unlike the intense pace of the series, the shooting of the film was not too tiring, even if the same team returned. ‘Mirzapur. The Movie will be released in theaters on September 4.

Rasika Dugal: is delighted to step back into the world of ‘Mirzapur’, this time for its big screen outing. In a recent interview, he opened up about what he considers a first for Indian entertainment, the demanding shooting schedule for the series, reuniting with the original cast and crew, and the pressure to meet the expectations of the franchise’s devoted fanbase.

Rasika Dugal called the film a landmark, first-of-its-kind moment

Describes ‘Mirzapur. The Film’ as a landmark moment, Rasika expressed the excitement of being a part of a project that charts new territory. Speaking to India Today, he said, “I am very excited that I am a part of something that is happening for the first time in our country, in our industry, where a series is made into a film. I think it has happened in the West. Peaky Blinders is something that has happened after the series. The other way around also happens in the West, where a film is made into a series. But this is the first time this has happened in our country. So I’m very excited to be a part of that”.

Rasika Dugal hopes that the OTT audience follows the show in theaters

The actor admitted that he wants to see how the audience responds to the transition from OTT to the big screen. “I’m very curious to see how the audience receives that, and I hope that our great streaming audience will also come to the theaters,” he added.

Rasika Dugal said that the shooting of the film was less hectic than the serial

Although the cast and crew remained the same, Rasika pointed out that the pace of the film’s shooting was nowhere near the fast pace of the series. “The crew was exactly the same. It’s just that we had more time to shoot. In the series, I felt like someone had fallen on my head because I was shooting five or six scenes in a day. I only finished one, and I didn’t know what happened. I barely faced what happened before I was hurriedly changed into a saree and thrown back into another scene. It’s like I’m doing a theater show where you go to the wings and come back. It almost feels that way. And it felt so heavy,” he recalls.

Rasika Dugal recalls: Divinendu: Sharma’s reaction on the Season 1 set

He recalls sharing this sentiment with co-star Divyenndu Sharma in the first season. “I remember I was talking to Divyenndu when we were shooting for Season 1. We only sat for two minutes, and Divyenndu looked at me and said, ‘Yaar yeh thoda zyada dark nahi ho raha hai(Isn’t it getting too dark?)’ I said, ‘Thank you for saying it,’ because I was so tired of saying it,” he said.
