Ilaiyaraaja took to his X (formerly Instagram) handle to share a post stating that his death was a personal loss and that Indian music has lost one of its greatest voices. Ilaiyaraaja spoke about the difficult moments that S. Janaki faced in his personal life. He said, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of beloved singer Janaki Amma. This is shocking and heartbreaking news.” He added, “He carried unbearable sadness in his personal life and lived through many painful experiences. It’s heartbreaking to think of the hardships he endured even though he brought so much joy to millions through his music.”
Ilaiyaraaja recalls how he always strived for perfection
Recalling the many songs they worked on together, Ilaiyaraaja said Janaki never accepted anything less than perfect. He explained that whenever he wanted a particular emotion or expression in a song, he would keep practicing until he got it right. He said, “I always work hard to achieve the musical expression I want in every composition. Janaki Amma matches that commitment with equal determination and continues to refine the song until it reaches perfection. In many ways, I can say that he exceeded even my expectations.”Ilaiyaraaja said that there is no other singer like S. Janaki because of his unique voice, emotion and dedication to music.
