South OTT released this week: Balan. The Boy’, ‘Pallichattambi’, ‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’ and others

The last week of July brought an interesting line-up of South Indian films on streaming platforms. Recent releases include action dramas, crime thrillers, horror mysteries, emotional dramas and dark comedies. Here’s a look at the big South Indian films that made their digital debut this week.

Pallichattambi:‘,’Ego Ramanand so on:

Among the biggest releases is the Tovino Thomas-starrer ‘Pallichattambi’, which will start streaming on SonyLIV from July 24.Set in Kerala in the late 1950s, the period action drama follows Krishna Pillai, a man raised in Hindu and Christian families, whose life changes as he becomes the dreaded Pallichattambi.The film also features Kayadu Lohar, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Baburaj and Shatru, while Prithviraj Sukumaran appears in a special cameo. Confirming the digital premiere, SonyLIV wrote, “Pallichattambi, the national and local favourite, is now available on SonyLIV #Pallichattambi streaming from July 24 exclusively on SonyLIV.”‘Ego Raman’ will also arrive on July 24 on Prime Video. The film follows Arivu, a TNPSC aspirant who fulfills his dream of becoming a government officer. The cast includes Ciby Chandran, Robo Shankar, Cheran Raj and others.

Horror, crime and comedy

Fans of supernatural stories can look forward to ‘Kalinga Mystery’, which will air on Sun NXT on July 24. The horror-comedy revolves around a group of college students who unwittingly unleash an ancient supernatural force. The film stars Dhyan Sreenivasan, Althaf Salim, Riyaz Khan, and others. The movie received mixed reviews from the audience during its theatrical release. AI scenes are said to be decent in the movie.Netflix will also add ‘Con City’ to its catalog on July 24. The crime comedy follows four con artists who pose as an ordinary family while running a hotel in Karnataka. Arjun Das and Anna Ben headline the cast along with Yogi Babu, Vadivukkarasi, and others.On the same day, ‘Triple Decker’ will make its direct OTT debut on ManoramaMAX. The dark comedy follows a shipping executive whose attempt to help the woman he loves lands him in a very messy situation. The film stars Akhil Sreekumaran, Vaishnavi and Gowri Kutty.

Chinna Chinna Aasai‘ got the OTT release date:

‘Chinna Chinna Aasai’, directed by Varsha Vasudev, is set to stream on JioHotstar from July 28. Set in Varanasi, the film follows two strangers whose lives become connected through an unexpected turn of events.Announcing the release, the streaming platform wrote, “Every little wish has a story worth telling. Chinna Chinna Aasai streaming from July 28 in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, exclusively on JioHotstar.”

Balance: The Child:to end the month

Closing out the month’s OTT releases is ‘Balan. The Boy’, which started streaming on ZEE5 from July 31. Directed by Chidambaram, the Malayalam-Telugu film tells the story of a boy who is brought up inside a women’s correctional facility by his mother. After leaving the institution, the two continue to change their identities to escape their past. The climax, performances, technical features, and music, received praises from the audience.
