Director: Ahmed Khan recently revealed Welcome To The Jungle was mounted on a grand scale, with around 900 people on set, 50 vanity vans, around 250 cars and a total budget of Rs 110 crore. The big budget multi-starrer has: Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Suniel Shetty:, Paresh Rawal:, Raveena Tandon among other prominent actors. It also starred Tusshar Kapoor who now spoke about the size of the production in an interview recently. He often thought to himself about the huge daily expenses involved in making such a film.Tusshar admitted that agreeing to be a part of a film with 34 actors was not a snap decision. He recalls receiving the offer while he was in London about three years ago and says it took a while to convince him.“I was in London when Welcome was offered to me. It was three years ago. Ahmed called me, and I was very excited. When we met, he told me who everyone was in the film. I’m a little confused. In the following months, after hearing the story and my behavior, I concluded that I was safe from his hands. So it’s a process, and not a green flag right away. It took me a while to believe that I was in good hands. Ahmed was the reason I made this film. When he is, there is a lot of trust and blind faith. He was my first film choreographer,” he said in an interview with Screen.Recalling the atmosphere during the shoot, Tusshar described the set as lively and full of camaraderie, comparing it to a bustling college canteen where everyone mingled freely with each other.“You can’t describe the chemistry on the set. There are so many actors that it’s like everyone gets along with everyone. Everyone finds their comfort zone. It feels like how films were made in the older days, like Mughal-e-Azam or Rajkumar Koli films where there are so many stars. It was like a party. Ahmed wants everyone to be happy. It’s like a college canteen.”As someone who understands filmmaking from both a creative and a business perspective, Tusshar says the scale of production often leaves him calculating costs in his head. The endless row of vanity vans and the large workforce made him question whether such an investment was practical, although he admired Ahmed Khan’s ambition.“When I get to the set, it takes five minutes to get to our vanity van because we have to go through this huge line of vans. Before, I would just look at these vans and think what is the daily cost of so many vans, and all the staff. Is it really worth it to hire so many actors? I used to be surprised that while Ahmed had a vision, he brought a new genre to India, but he never tried to make the a new genre in India, but he never tried. Too much kharcha? There is a gap year in shooting Welcome. When the film went ahead, he never thought of just shooting the actors on the set. He stuck to his guns and finished the film.”Tusshar also weighed in on the ongoing discussion about entourage costs in the entertainment industry. While he acknowledges that certain comforts are necessary for actors to do their best, he emphasizes that there must be a reasonable limit.“There must be a balance. Some of that cost, even if it feels a bit excessive, is necessary. You need your hairstylist, your makeup man. You need some benefits. Going through the stress that a leading actor or actress goes through, you need a comfort, space, and luxury to bring out your best. This is a visual medium, to bring beauty to the whole, you need some kharcha and well. beyond the basic need for vanity to the point of becoming narcissism. It should not be done to satisfy your ego. That’s not good.”
