The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final in 2027 will be played at The Oval, and the title clash is scheduled to take place from June 9 to 13. The venue will host the prestigious match for the second time after the 2023 final.The decision follows the ICC Annual Meeting in 2025, where the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) won the right to host the next three WTC Finals-2027, 2029 and 2031. England has now become the home of the tournament, having hosted every WTC Final since the tournament was introduced.The last opening of the WTC took place in Southampton in 2021, when New Zealand defeated India to become the first champions. Australia then lifted the tournament after beating India at The Oval in 2023, while South Africa claimed their first WTC title at Lord’s in 2025 defeating Australia by five wickets.
The 2027 final coincides with 150 years of Test Cricket
The 2027 WTC Final will complete the fourth cycle of the tournament and will be significant as it coincides with 150 years of Test Cricket, making it one of the biggest events in the history of the longest-running format.The ECB’s Director of Competitions and Major Events Neil Snowball welcomed the confirmation, saying that England was proud to continue to host Test Cricket’s biggest event and provide a well-deserved venue for two of the world’s best teams. Australia leads the current WTC situation
Australia currently tops the World Test Championship with 87.50 per cent, while defending champions South Africa are second with 75.00. New Zealand is in third place, followed by Bangladesh and India in fourth and fifth place respectively. Sri Lanka is sixth, while England, West Indies and Pakistan complete the rankings in seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.
