Indian fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has been given an official warning by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after he breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first ODI against England on Tuesday. This happened in the eighth over of England’s innings when Brar took the ball after delivery and threw it to England batsman Ben Duckett. The match officials ruled that the throw was “unfair and dangerous.” Along with the warning, Brar received one demerit point on his disciplinary record.The case was brought by the actors, along with the third and fourth actors, under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The rule deals with “throwing the ball at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner in an international match”. A Level 1 offense can result in a government reprimand, a fine of up to 50 percent of the player’s fine, and one or two points.If a player collects four or more points within a 24-month period, it will be converted to a suspension, which could result in a ban. A two-point suspension equals a suspension for one Test or two ODIs or T20Is, whichever comes first. Demerit points are removed from the player’s record after 24 months.Despite the ban, Brar impressed with the ball, taking two wickets as India cruised to a six-wicket victory over England to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The teams meet again in the second ODI in Cardiff on Thursday.“Brar pleaded guilty and accepted the decision of the referee Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, and therefore, there was no reason to listen,” the ICC said on Thursday.
