New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer’s first win as India’s T20I manager was built on a fearless brand of cricket, and the skipper believes the young team’s ability to stay positive and attack every opportunity has been the biggest takeaway from their campaign against Zimbabwe.India sealed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with a record-breaking 90-run victory in the second T20I on Saturday, but for Iyer, the result was more than just another win – it was a reflection of the team’s aggressive mindset and faith in its young players.Batting first, India recovered and posted 219/5, aided by Ishan Kishan’s brilliant 81 and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 60. The bowlers did their best to bowl Zimbabwe out for 129 in 17.5 overs.

Reflecting on his performance, Iyer highlighted how the team’s fearless approach allowed the players to express themselves without worrying about past experiences.“That’s how you have to approach the game. I feel it’s all about mindset. Don’t dwell too much on past performances. Keep moving forward and, most importantly, stay in the present. You have to make the most of every opportunity you get,” Iyer said after the match.
Iyer praises Kishan, Tilak for batting fearlessly
India were in early trouble at 29/2 after losing Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, but Kishan and Tilak turned the match around with a thrilling partnership.Kishan added 66 runs with Iyer before joining forces with Tilak for a 94-run stand that propelled India past the 200-mark.Iyer admitted the team’s expectations changed during the innings when the two left-arm spinners launched a surprise attack.“Starting with batting, I think the way Ishan and Tilak played was very good. Some of the scenes they played were beautiful, and it was very interesting,” he said. “Initially, I felt that anything between 180 and 200 would be the best, but we got 220, which was the icing on the cake.”The Indian captain also praised the bowling team for their discipline and good planning.“With the ball, as usual, the bowlers came in, did their lines and lengths exactly and collected them for 130-odd. I think that tells the story of the game,” he added.
The injury before the final T20I
India’s preparations for the final were disrupted after fast bowler Prince Yadav suffered a hip injury during the second innings.Prince stood up while running and walked off the field after taking two wickets. Iyer confirmed that injuries could lead to changes in the final list.“Unfortunately, one of our players (Prince) is injured, so there may be several changes,” said the official.
